Universal Orlando Resort is well known for its rollercoasters and thrill rides. As a sort of flipside to Walt Disney World, the resort has an abundance of electrifying fast-paced attractions that are a hit with theme park thrill seekers. With recent additions to their lineup, like the innovative Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Universal is working continuously to expand their hair-raising offerings. Let’s take a look at the Professor’s top 5 thrill rides every coaster fanatic needs to ride on their next trip.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
The first attraction on our list is certainly one of the most imposing rides, just from an outside view. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit in Universal Studios Florida, is an outdoor steel coaster over 3,800 feet in length and reaching a height of 167 feet. This intense experience blasts guests at up to 65 mph with twists and turns through the New York area, after carrying them up a 17-story initial climb. To add to the excitement, riders can choose their own ride soundtrack from a selection of popular rock, pop, and country tunes. Guests must be at 51” or taller to ride.
The Incredible Hulk Coaster
If you’ve ever wanted to experience the power and fury of Marvel’s green Avenger first-hand, you can do no better than taking a ride on the intense Incredible Hulk Coaster in Marvel’s Superhero Island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. This is a coaster with “anger issues” that starts with a 40 mph launch through the “Gamma Force Accelerator” and continues at up to 67 mph with some extreme inversions and turns. The attraction underwent a refurbishment in 2015 that included new lighting and sound effects and has since remained as one of the park’s top thrill rides. Guests must be 54” or taller to ride.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Thrill-seeking muggles looking for a bit of adventure should make sure to grab a ride on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade in Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Riders board a “flying bench” that carries them on a wild ride through iconic scenes and settings from the hit film and book series. This is an indoor coaster that combines a fast-paced rollercoaster with digital projections screens to create a realistic and enthralling experience. Forbidden Journey is unique to the resort in its use of a robotic arm-mounted ride vehicle that flips and swings guests while traveling through Hogwarts. Guests must be 48” or taller to ride.
Revenge of the Mummy
Are you brave enough to escape the curse of the fearsome Mummy? You can find out on this creepy mix of dark ride and rollercoaster at Universal Studios Florida. This indoor coaster is based on the Mummy films from the early 2000s and takes riders on a spooky journey through Imhotep’s tomb with animatronic characters and some jump scares. The ride accelerates to a top speed of up to 45 mph as you desperately try to escape the Mummy’s clutches. Although this ride doesn’t have any loops or inversions, the combination of a classic dark ride with an exciting rollercoaster makes it a must-do for thrill-seekers. Guests must be 48” or taller to ride.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
Universal Orlando’s newest thrill ride is also one of the Professor’s favorite choices for intense entertainment. On this imaginative new ride, located at Hogsmeade, guests sit on Hagrid’s iconic rocket-powered motorcycle (or the sidecar) for a nimble journey through the character’s collection of fantastic beasts at Hogwarts. This attraction does an amazing job of combining a thrilling coaster with life-like animatronic creatures and characters like Fluffy the three-headed dog, Cornish pixies, and the Devil’s Snare. This coaster does not have any inversions but reaches a top speed of up to 50 mph and features 7 fast launches throughout the ride. Guests must be 48” or taller to ride.
Ko’okiri Body Plunge – Universal’s Volcano Bay
