If you’ve ever wanted to step inside your favorite Disney film, you may just be getting that chance very soon. The Hollywood Reporter has just reported that Walt Disney Studios has signed a multi-title agreement with Secret Cinema to create new immersive experiences for some of their most iconic films.
Secret Cinema has become known for combining classic film screenings with live music, art, theater, and dance to create unique screenings that allow guests to enjoy movies in a new way. Screenings are held in large spaces converted into worlds straight from the movies. Actors recreating scenes live and audience participation adds even more to the experience. The company has had great success already with immersive screenings for films like Blade Runner and Alien. Secret Cinema will work closely with Disney’s StudioLAB to work out the best way to bring iconic Disney movies to life.
Details and exactly which films will get the immersive treatment have yet to be announced, but the first showing is set to debut in London later this year. There are also plans to expand to the U.S. with shows in Los Angeles and New York. Secret Cinema CEO Max Alexander said “Working with The Walt Disney Studios is much more than access to a treasure trove of titles, it’s about bringing together a unique combination of skills and expertise to build ever more authentic and amazing experiences, raising the bar again for what we mean by ‘immersive cinema,’”
