In a time with so many uncertainties, we have to keep our options open. This Summer and Fall Disney Parks and Resorts will be undergoing some major limitations and new procedures that may make it somewhat difficult for guests to get reservations, or even be able to visit the parks.
While we LOVE Walt Disney World, and it will never lose its place in our heart, Universal Orlando Resort is a huge contender right now… They are reopening June 5th and are already on task to get back to “business as usual” as soon as possible. In this post, we are going to give you some very compelling reasons to give Universal Orlando Resort your consideration this year!
#1- They may not be as big as Walt Disney World, but they aren’t small potatoes either…
Even though it is smaller, Universal Orlando Resort is still quite a substantial property at 840 acres. It includes three theme parks: Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay Water Park. While it isn’t Disney Springs, Universal CityWalk Orlando has tons of shopping, dining, and entertainment for the entire family! Not only that, but you can stay at one of their many on-site hotels as well!

#2- They have staying power and evolution in the works!
Universal Orlando opened up back in 1990 with a single theme park, Universal Studios Florida. The attraction complex exploded in size in 1999 with the addition of Islands of Adventure, Universal CityWalk, and the first on-site hotel, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel. Even bigger game changers came in 2010 with the addition of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and expansion in summer 2014 with Diagon Alley. Coming soon, even more fun with the new Universal Epic Universe in 2023.

#3- Less planning, more fun!
Thanks to its smaller size, Universal Orlando is a simpler vacation to plan, though there’s a lot to see. You’ll need a place to stay, theme park tickets, and some knowledge of the Express Pass system. Thankfully, we have amazing travel advisors at Key to the World Travel who can do all that for you!

#4- Getting around Universal is a breeze!
Getting around Universal Orlando is so easy! Complimentary transportation from the resorts include water taxis and shuttle buses. Waterways connect the on-site hotels to both theme parks and CityWalk and everything are also within walking distance. The walking paths are also a beautiful stroll as well!

#5- Less crowds to fight
There isn’t a good way to gauge how busy the parks will be when they are back at full capacity, however, it is definitely easier to get on a ride at Universal than Walt Disney World. With the Express Pass and single rider lines, you have 1/2 the wait of a Disney park.

#6- You’ll still see a castle!
Universal Orlando is home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. A magical place even for those who aren’t fans of the Harry Potter films. You will enter two lands of groundbreaking thrills and magical fun in Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida. Step inside the story on the streets of Diagon Alley where hidden dangers lurk far beneath Gringotts bank. Travel to the village of Hogsmeade and into Hogwarts castle for a spellbinding journey through the skies. Come experience the wizarding world like never before–joining Hagrid to fly far beyond the grounds of Hogwarts castle, deep into the wild of the Forbidden Forest, to discover rare magical creatures on an all-new thrilling roller coaster adventure.
