Walt Disney World is slowly reopening all of the resort’s parks, hotels, and recreational offerings. After a lengthy closure due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the resort has had to update and expand many of the processes guests use during their stay. While Mobile Ordering at Quick Service restaurants certainly isn’t new, the resort has stressed the importance of using the system to reduce contact with other guests and Cast Members. We are going to go over how to use Walt Disney World’s Mobile Ordering to make your next visit easier and help you adhere to the resort’s new rules.
Mobile Ordering allows guests to use their mobile devices to customize, pay, and pick up their orders at all resort Quick Service dining locations. The free service is a function of the My Disney Experience app that also allows guests to track their reservations, make Park Pass Reservations, and more. We always used Mobile Ordering when possible before the closure for its ease of use and ability to skip ordering lines. The service is now a necessity due to physical distancing guidelines currently in place.
To begin your order, you’ll first need to make sure that you have the My Disney Experience app loaded onto your phone or tablet. After signing in, you’ll press the “+” button at the bottom of the screen. This will present you with a small menu of options including making reservations for Table Service locations and buying new park tickets. Click on the link labeled “Order Food”.
You’ll then see a full list of Quick Service locations offering Mobile Ordering. These are broken down into parks, hotels, and Disney Springs but you’ll need to scroll through the whole list to find your desired restaurant. Under each location is listed a suggested pick-up time. Once you’ve placed your order, you’ll have 30 minutes to pick it up. If the suggested pick-up time doesn’t work for you, there is also a “More Times” button to choose an alternate one.
After choosing your location and pick-up time, you’ll then be presented with a full menu to order from. This will be broken down into categories like entrees, sides, and desserts. If the location has any souvenir cups or containers, you can still order those from the app as well. Locate your desired items in the menu, and add them to your order. For this demonstration, we are going with one of our favorite Disney snacks, the Dole Whip Pineapple Float from Aloha Isle.
Once you’ve created your order, you’ll be able to review it before submitting. If you’d like to add anything, now is the time to do it by clicking “Modify Order”. You’ll have the option to add any promotional codes at the check out screen. You can pay for your order with a credit card that you’ve already registered to your My Disney Experience account, or if you’re an iPhone user, Apple Pay is also accepted.
After submitting your order, you will see a screen that will allow you to see your order details as well as notify the location that you are present and ready to pick up your order. When you are at the restaurant, click on “I’m Here, Prepare My Order”. This will notify the kitchen to begin preparing your order. If you’ve placed your order, but just realized that Seven Dwarfs Mine Train only has a 10-minute wait and you’d like to move your return time, you can do that by clicking on “Change Arrival Window”. After you’ve notified the restaurant that you’re ready for your order, you’ll see a progress bar and a notification that your order is being prepared.
When your order is ready, the screen will change and notify you of where to pick up your order. Mobile Ordering pick up spots are well marked and adhere to physical distancing guidelines to ensure guests safety.
You’re now ready to enjoy your meal, or in our case, a frosty treat! We’ve always found Walt Disney World’s Mobile Ordering to be a useful system to help decrease your time in lines and increase your vacation time. With the current situation, the service is even more valuable to visiting guests. The expansion of Mobile Ordering is just one of the many ways Walt Disney World is going above and beyond to help guests feel safe during their visit and we applaud them for all of the hard work that has gone into reopening the resort.
