Walt Disney World is now in a few weeks into reopening after a lengthy closure due to the outbreak of COVID-19. To prepare to welcome guests back to the parks, hotels, and other areas of the resort Disney reevaluated every aspect of the resort. From how guests purchase souvenirs, to setting up mask “Relaxation Stations” throughout the parks, the resort has put a great deal of effort into ensuring guests’ safety and comfort. One of the most notable changes for guests is in the form of new enhanced hotel cleanings.
Ahead of its reopening, Walt Disney World announced that their onsite hotels would be revamping their cleaning procedures to increase safety and help guests feel comfortable during their stay. These improvements include a more thorough room cleaning prior to guests’ arrival as well as increased cleaning in high-traffic areas such as public elevators and escalators, handrails, benches, tables, handles, restrooms, and more.
Prior to Arrival
Before you even arrive at your hotel, your room has already received an enhanced and thorough cleaning. All surfaces and areas that receive more physical interaction are sanitized between guests as well as increased cleaning of the floors and carpets. This in-depth cleaning also includes:
- High-touch areas, like TV remotes and door handles
- Housekeeping tools will be cleaned between rooms
- Floors, which will be steam cleaned and vacuumed between guests
Inside Your Room
After you’ve checked in, you’ll find a few changes to your room’s offerings as well. If you’re someone that’s always worried about the germs left on hotel remote controls, Disney has begun wrapping them in plastic after cleaning. Other in-room changes include:
- Individually wrapped glassware
- Double-cased pillows
- Additional items that have been cleaned and wrapped in single-use packaging
During Your Stay
While enjoying your Walt Disney World vacation, you’ll also notice a few changes to the daily housekeeping usually offered at all hotels. In the past, guests could expect a daily cleaning of their room. Now, to help decrease contact, hotel rooms will receive a light cleaning every other day of a guest’s stay. Guests may also decline housekeeping altogether but must inform their hotel during check-in to opt-out. If there is more than one room on your reservation and you choose to decline service, your selection will apply to all rooms on the reservation. The cleaning service will include:
- Removal of trash and used towels
- Replenishment of towels and amenities throughout room and bathroom
- Wiping and cleaning of the vanity and counter surfaces
- Vacuuming, if needed
If you require any additional items during your stay like pillows, soap, towels, etc. you can contact the front desk and have them delivered to your room. For guests staying at a Disney Vacation Club resort, you’ll receive service on the 4th and 8th days, unless you decline that service. Due to safety concerns, Walt Disney World reserves the right to enter any room at a Disney Resort hotel for maintenance, safety, security, or any other purpose, even if the “Room Occupied” sign is displayed on the room door.
All of these measures show that Disney is going above and beyond to keep the resort safe and fun for guests. We found the new hotel cleaning procedures to be comprehensive and all Cast Members we observed were strictly adhering to the new standards. The measures gave us peace of mind and the ability to relax in our hotels knowing that Walt Disney World has put the safety of guests as their top priority during their reopening.
