We live in a digital age where many aspects of our lives are connected to our phones and computers. From keeping up with friends to ordering dinner, phone apps can handle a myriad of daily tasks. Not only can mobile apps improve our day to day lives, but it can also be a handy tool while on vacation. One of the best examples of this is the implementation of apps at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. In the past few years, we’ve seen the use of theme park apps that can do things like connect your reservations, provide resort information, and even hold your place in line. Universal has recently improved their app to include many features during their reopening so let’s take a look at all of the things you can do on the Universal Orlando Resort app!
Many of Universal’s biggest rides are now using a virtual queue called the “Virtual Line Experience” that can be found within the Universal Orlando app. Using this, guests can reserve their place in line at an attraction while they explore the rest of the park until their ride reservation is up. This is a great tool that can really cut down your time spent in line and make you feel like you’re getting the most out of your vacation. You are allowed to make up to 2 reservations at a time that do not overlap and guests with Express Pass can still bypass the reservation system and enter those eligible attractions through the Express Pass line as usual.
Mobile Dining Ordering
Another tool that can cut down on your time spent in lines is the ability to order food and drink from most Quick Service dining locations at the resort. From within the Universal Orlando app, guests can link their credit card, choose their dining location, create their meal, and then notify the restaurant when they arrive to ensure that their order is made fresh. We definitely prefer this method to the old style of standing in a massive line while trying to decide what we want on our burger! The app allows for modifications to existing menu offerings as well as the ability to apply Annual Passholder discounts before checking out.
If you’re wanting to use Universal’s mobile ordering function, you’ll need to register a credit or debit card in the app’s wallet. This is a great way to help with contactless payment as well as make it easier to purchase park tickets, Express Passes, dining plans, photo passes, and more. There’s even the ability to take your trip up a notch by booking a V.I.P. tour or link it to your Tapu Tapu at Volcano Bay for an even more hassle-free experience. We recommend setting up your in-app wallet before you arrive so that you’re ready for your visit before the fun begins.
Tickets and Reservations
There was a time when visiting a theme park meant having to carry around a paper ticket. Then we moved to the age where you could purchase your tickets from home but still needed to print them out before you arrived. Those days are long gone as guests of Universal Orlando Resort now have the ability to purchase and redeem park tickets all within the mobile app. This doesn’t just apply to standard park tickets though, and guests can also purchase many add-ons to make their visit even more enjoyable.
One of my least favorite aspects of visiting a theme park is dealing with parking. It’s an inevitable reality for those driving to the parks that you will have to spend a little time parking and then hiking to the park. The worst-case scenario is that you will probably forget exactly where you left your car after you’ve spent a day enjoying the parks. Luckily the Universal Orlando app has a function that can help you remember your spot and easily retrieve the information when you’re ready to leave. The parking reminder allows you to take a store a photo of your parking section sign as well as enter the section, level, and row of your parking space.
Maps, Attraction Info, and Showtimes
No one wants to have to carry around a paper map and try to find their next stop or showtime. With Universal Orlando’s app, you can now access full resort maps as well as showtimes, character meet locations, dining offerings, and more. The interactive maps are easy to use and allow you to use filters to find and sort by park, ride type, shows, dining, and shopping. The app is updated regularly so you’ll always be up to date on what’s happening during your visit and where to find it.
