How to Ship Purchases Home From Walt Disney World

| | |

Bringing souviners home from your vacation at Walt Disney World is a great way to relive the memories you make on your trip. From Christmas ornaments to custom built robotic companions, there are so many things to spend your vacation dollars on. If you’re a Disney collector like myself or you’ve purchased a large item on your trip, it can become a bit of a challenge to figure out how to safely get all of your purchases home. Airlines have restrictions on carry on luggage and if you’ve driven to the resort you might not have much room left in the trunk. Luckily you can actually ship most items purchased at Walt Disney World to your home, right from the resort!

Resort Gift Shops

All Walt Disney World Resort gift shops allow guests to ship their purchases home. The service is open to all guests, and not just those staying onsite. Shipping is typically done through UPS and requires a small fee. All items shipped by Walt Disney World are insured for damages which can add peace of mind for any breakable items you purchase and will be replaced if damaged. Shipping is only available for U.S. destinations. To utilize this service at a gift shop, simply notify the Cast Member during checkout that you would like to ship your purchase home. You will then be asked to fill out a form and pay the fee for handling. After you’ve completed your purchase you will be given a copy of the shipping form.

Hotels

Shipping purchases from your Walt Disney World Resort hotel can also be done in the same way as other gift shops. The difference is that you can ship any items you’ve purchased at the resort, not just those from the hotel gift shop. You will need to have your receipts and it can be a bit of a long process as the gift shop will technically cancel your purchases and then reamake them from the hotel shop. If you’re staying at a Disney hotel with a business center, you can also arrange shipment of any packages from those locations. To ship from a hotel business center, you will need to provide your own box and package the items yourself. Some business centers have boxes available for you to use for an extra charge, but you should check with your hotel first. Disney hotel business centers charge a fee for shipping that is based on the size and weight of the package. The fees do not include postage.

Package Weight Package Handling Fee
0 to 5 lbs $5
6 to 20 lbs $10
21 to 40 lbs $15
41 to 69 lbs $20
Display Cases 0-69 lbs $25
70 to 134 lbs $100
Over 135 lbs $0.75 per lb

For same-day shipping, outbound parcels must be received in the package room by 4:30 PM Monday – Friday. Items received after 4:30 PM on Friday will be shipped on Monday unless special handling has been requested. Saturday shipping services are available until 11:30 AM with advance notice. Special rates apply.

Droid Depot/Savi’s Lightsabers

Two of the most popular new sounvenirs you can take home from Walt Disney World are the custom droids and lightsabers you can build at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. These aren’t just souvenirs though as they combine an interactive expereince with retail. One of the challenges of making these high-dollar toys is their size. Droids can be up to 11 inches tall and the lightsabers are roughly 4 feet long. Although both of these items are accepted as carry on luggage by all airlines, taking them onboard the plane means you won’t be able to bring a suitcase as well. Both purchases can be shipped home with a little work. If you’ve purchased a Droid Depot robot, you can arrange to have your new robotic companion shipped fromt the shop in much the same way as other purchases. You will need to decide if you want to ship your driod beforehand and notify the Cast Member before building. Shipping for a droid can range from $12 – $15 and is determined by the price of the droid built. For lightsaber shipping, you will need to take your purchase to either Droid Depot or Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. You can also ship your lightsaber home from your onsite hotel gift shop. Fees are determined by the destination but can be anywhere from $12 – $15.
