Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Transportation Options

| | |

This past week we spent 4 nights at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort. The Swan and Dolphin Resorts are sister resorts that share transportation and amenities. There is also the Swan and Dolphin Reserve that will be opening later this year.

The resorts are considered apart of the “Epcot Area Resorts” located right next to Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort. While the Swan and Dolphin Resorts are not owned by Walt Disney World, they are owned and operated by Marriott, they are both located right in the middle of the magic. They both offer quick and complimentary transportation to the parks. They are also both close enough to walk to both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. You can find maps at the entrances of both resorts showing you the different options. See below:

When you check-in to the resort you want to download the Swan and Dolphin Resort app. There are so many great tools and updated information for you to use during your stay. You can download the app from your app store or scan the QR code at the front desk upon arrival.  One of the handiest tools on the app for us was the Transportation tab. Check it out below:

On the app you can see what transportation options there are, where they are located, and when they are running. This comes in handy when you are at the parks and you want to figure out how to get to your next location! We will break down each of the transportation options below.

Complimentary Water Taxi- AKA Friendship Boats

The very same Friendship Boats that offer water taxi transportation to and from Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort also stops at the Swan and Dolphin Resort.

According to the app and the resort postings, the taxi runs every 20-25 minutes. However, we almost exclusively used the taxi and never waited more than 10 mins the entire trip. The boat captain told us that they added a 5th “over-flow” boat that will go back and forth between whichever park is busier at the time.

Walk to Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios

While we did not take advantage of this(we were exhausted) it is just a 15-20 minute walk to both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Both paths are very scenic and you can see them from your comfortable seat aboard the Friendship boats.

Shuttle Bus to the Parks

There are shuttle busses that arrive at the bus pick-up for both the Swan and the Dolphin Resorts. They also depart every 20-25 minutes and take you to Magic Kingdom® Park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, Disney Springs® area, and Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.

The timing for these busses is accurate. We got to the bus pick-up at Magic Kingdom just as a bus was pulling away and it was another 20 minutes before it returned to do another pick-up.

The only complimentary way to get to and from Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Magic Kingdom is the shuttle busses. Disney’s Animal Kingdom bus pickup is located with the normal Disney bus pick-up. However, if you want to use it for Magic Kingdom, you have to take the monorail or ferry to the Transportation and Ticket Center and exit to the left to the shuttle pick-up area. To bypass this, I would suggest getting on the bus for either the Yacht/Beach Club or Boardwalk and then taking the very short walk back to the Swan or Dolphin.

As you can see from the photo below, both resorts are located right next to the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. You can even hop a Friendship Boat from either resort and take it back to the Swan and Dolphin if you don’t want to walk. We did this and it was a 5-minute wait and a 5-minute trip. We could have walked there in that timeframe but we were totally exhausted from the day at Magic Kingdom.

Rideshare or Taxi

Just like all other resorts at Walt Disney World, you can use Lyft, Uber, or Taxi to get around any of the properties. We took an Uber from the airport to the resort and it was $26. To return back to the airport when we left it was $28. There isn’t Magical Express Service to the Swan and Dolphin so you will have to use a rideshare or taxi option if you are not renting a car.

As an additional benefit, there is a Mears Transportation desk located in the guest services area of the Dolphin. You can schedule your transportation through them as well.
