The Tusker House is a table service restaurant located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You will find it in Africa, near the entrance to Kilimanjaro Safaris. This restaurant recently reopened and it is known for the character meals at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We had the opportunity to eat lunch here recently and this is our review.

Upon arrival, we checked in and waited outside to be seated. It wasn’t a long wait at all, less than 20 minutes. We received a text message letting us know that we should come to the entrance of the restaurant. There, we were greeted and taken to our seats.

Tusker House

Currently, the meals at Tusker House are served family-style, as opposed to the buffet that was utilized previously. Our server was amazing! She was friendly, prompt, and gave a breakdown of the menu while reminding us that the meal was served family-style and it was unlimited.

She also let us know that we would be able to see four different characters throughout our meal – Mickey, Goofy, Donald, and Daisy.

The Food

The Appetizers and Unlimited Bread Service

Now, I have to admit that I can be a bit of a picky eater. However, every aspect of this meal was outstanding! Breakfast at the Tusker House is one of my absolute favorites so I was excited to try the lunch.

To begin, our server brought a bread tray that included rolls and chips, similar to a tortilla chip. There were also three sauces. If you are familiar with Sanaa, a table service restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village, you will likely recognize these sauces pretty quickly! I was VERY excited about this!

We also had a salad with citrus vinaigrette dressing. It was simple but very refreshing and had a good flavor, with a hint of lemon.

The Entrees and Sides

Next came the entrees and sides. There was a bowl of house-made macaroni and cheese. The other sides – mixed vegetables and roasted potatoes – were included in a large skillet with the meat. Three types of meat were included: Moroccan spiced beef, Spit-roasted herb chicken, and Berber-marinated pork. In addition, there was a bowl with Cape Malay Green Curry Shrimp with Jasmine Rice.

All of this food was pretty amazing. The beef was tender and had a great flavor with the chimichurri sauce on top. This was our favorite and not a bite was left behind! A close second, the chicken was cooked rotisserie-style. It was quite tasty, and not at all dry. The pork was tender and was a great choice to round out the meats. The shrimp and rice had a spicy flavor and if you like curry, it will likely be right up your alley.

The Desserts

Now, the desserts! They were almost too cute to eat! The presentation was spot on and they were a nice finish to the meal. First, the Safari cupcake was a yellow cake with buttercream icing. This is perfect for the kids or those who prefer simple but cute desserts. The Tree of Life brownie had a rich chocolatey flavor and the detail on it was just amazing! Our favorite was the flourless Honey Bee Cake. It was as delicious as it was eye-catching with layers of sweet honey filling and chocolate flourless cake. All I can say is YUM!

The Characters

The characters at the Tusker House have always been, and continue to be, amazing! The interactions here have resulted in some of my favorite Disney memories and this time was no exception!

During our lunch experience, the characters came out two at a time and made their rounds individually throughout the restaurant. First, we saw Mickey Mouse.

Then, Goofy came out with a bang! He sure knows how to make an entrance!

Next, Daisy Duck came by, looking fabulous as always.

The real show-stopper at this meal though is always Donald Duck!

Each character walked through and was sure to stop for a socially distanced interaction. You could take selfies, say hi, etc. It was still just as fun! You can even ask my 6-year-old who wasn’t there but got a surprise FaceTime interaction with Donald Duck when he called me! The characters always find ways to create that Disney magic and make memories you won’t soon forget! After they stopped by each table, they played music and did a little dance throughout the restaurant.

In conclusion, Tusker House is still a favorite! The new menu options are delicious and the character interactions are unforgettable.
