Visiting Disney California Adventure with Kids

| | |

Disney California Adventure is the second theme park to open at the Disneyland Resort. Since it opened in 2001, it has grown and changed quite a bit. However, this park celebrates California and features many things to do for kids of all ages, including kids at heart! This is your complete guide to visiting Disney California Adventure with kids.

Must-Do Attractions and Rides

When you enter the park, it may feel as though you are walking back in time to classic Hollywood. The street is lined with shops and from here, you can walk to the different lands in the park, starting with Hollywood Land.

In Hollywood Land, you will find a few shows including Mickey’s PhilHarMagic and Turtle Talk with Crush. These are both very kid-friendly, perfect for the youngest guests.

Pixar Pier is the place to be for anyone who loves Toy Story, Coco, Inside Out, and more! Although some of the attractions here do have height requirements, this is such a fun area to explore and there are attractions for all ages!

Plus, it features the perfect ride for a young thrill-seeker – the IncrediCoaster! If you are looking for an attraction for the whole family, check out the Pixar Pal-A-Round. You can take in views of the whole park from this signature attraction and choose whether you swing or not!

Cars Land is another popular spot for little ones featuring three different attractions with the Cars theme. Don’t forget to stop by for a photo with Lightning McQueen himself!

The newest addition to Disney California Adventure is the Avengers Campus. This new land is an absolute must for every Marvel fan! Kids will love seeing all of their favorite Marvel superheroes as they wait to experience the newest attraction, Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. This attraction is currently accessible by the virtual queue only.

Thrill-seekers will also love Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This attraction may be frightening for younger children but features all of your favorites from the movie.

Characters

Disney California Adventure - Characters

Like Disneyland Park, there are characters throughout Disney California Adventure. They rotate throughout the day, with no specific times for appearances given to guests.

Some examples of characters that you may see include:

  • Queen Anna
  • Elsa
  • Dopey
  • Mickey
  • Minnie
  • Donald
  • Daisy
  • Goofy
  • Pluto
  • Horace Horsecollar
  • The Avengers (Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain American, Thor and Loki, and more)

The character interactions are still socially distanced at this time. The characters will pose for pictures and interact with guests, providing a magical and memorable experience. In some locations, there are no lines to take photos and interact. The characters move back and forth and guests take turns getting photos taken and saying hello!

At other locations, such as within the Avengers Campus, guests are directed by cast members to line up for the characters. These interactions are quite popular!

In addition to the character appearances, there are also a few shows throughout the day. This is especially the case for the Avengers Campus. You can watch Spider-Man fly, show off your dance moves with Star-Lord, or watch the Avengers assemble! Check the Disneyland mobile app for showtimes.

Dining

At Disney California Adventure, there are several quick-service locations throughout the park. There is a variety of food choices available including delicious snack options. Many of these choices are kid-friendly and some are even themed for your favorite characters!

Mobile ordering for many quick service locations is available and highly recommended. Check the Disneyland app for more details and options.

Located just a few minutes away, there are two great character meals at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort and Spa. While these are not technically in the park, guests can enter the resort via a back entrance right in the park to get to their dining reservation.
