From being captured by the First Order to visiting Arendelle to sing with Elsa and rocking and rolling with Aerosmith, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a fun time for all ages. This is your complete guide to Disney’s Hollywood Studios touring strategies

When to Arrive

Like the other parks, early arrival is recommended. Yes, I say this a lot. If you are a resort guest, it’s a huge advantage to have that extra time early in the day. It truly gives you a head start on the most popular attractions. Plan accordingly for your arrival as well. Disney transportation starts approximately one hour prior to opening.

Head to those attractions first and then grab breakfast at one of the quick service locations in the park or even a character meal!

Alternatively, if you don’t plan to spend the whole day here or hop over from another park, you may find that wait times are shorter later in the day too.

Touring Plans

Disney’s Hollywood Studios touring strategies included here are good for families with kids of all ages. In my opinion, it is possible to experience this park in half a day. However, keep in mind that some of the shows that are offered here are not available in the evening.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios with Little Ones

Although there are some attractions at this park with height requirements, there are things for the little ones to do while the big kids – and adults – go on those thrill rides!

When using this touring plan, here are a few things to consider:

  • This plan does not include those thrill rides that children under 40″ are unable to ride. If you would like to experience an attraction that your child cannot ride, go to the cast member at the entrance of the attraction to do a Rider Swap.
  • There are characters everywhere at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A few cavalcades go down Hollywood Boulevard throughout the day. In addition, look for characters greeting guests in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, from balconies along Hollywood Boulevard, and more!
  • There is a character meal at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Hollywood & Vine – that is so fun for kids. At breakfast, there are friends from Disney Junior and at lunch and dinner, it’s Minnie Mouse and friends.
  • If you are looking for a fun activity with your kids, consider doing the scavenger hunt to find all of the Disney Fab 50 statues. These statues are found in all four parks and it’s fun to look for and take pictures with them all!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios – 1-day Touring Plan

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

This touring plan includes all attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This can be modified depending on what your travel party would like to experience in the park. For example, this park is known for the Star Wars experiences available to guests. Therefore, if you are a big fan, you may want to consider spending more time in that area. The same is true if you have someone who enjoys Toy Story or Disney Junior.

Here are some additional tips to consider:

  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is no longer a virtual queue. Therefore, if you would like to experience this attraction, use the standby queue or purchase an Individual Lightning Lane return time.
  • If you choose the standby queue, go early in the day or late for the shortest wait times. Keep in mind that if you are not using the Early Park Entry, many other guests go straight there when the park opens, including those that arrived for Early Entry and are already in line.
  • Enjoy the food at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There are some special snack options available in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort. Then, head to the Milk Stand in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and tell us whether you prefer blue or green milk!

Using Disney Genie+ with a Touring Plan

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance - DHS Touring Strategies

If you plan to purchase Disney Genie+ for your visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it’s important to plan ahead regarding your first attraction choice. Like the other parks, the availability of the Genie+ Lightning Lane times will go quickly for the most popular attractions. This is especially the case for Slinky Dog Dash.

Make sure you have your Disney Genie+ purchased ahead of time. It can be added to your vacation package or tickets ahead of time. Alternatively, purchase it each day once you arrive. If you are not sure how to select your first attraction, check out this guide for step-by-step guidance to setting up Disney Genie and selecting your attraction choices.

Some Tips to Consider:
  • If you would like to purchase an individual Lightning Lane return time for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, it’s important to do so as soon as possible, starting at 7:00 am on the day of your visit. If you would like to ride this attraction using the standby queue, later in the day is generally better
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the other Individual Lightning Lane attraction at this park. If you do not want to purchase, use the My Disney Experience app to monitor wait times. Head there first thing or later in the afternoon.
  • The shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are included with Disney Genie+. This allows you to enter the seating area prior to the standby line. If the show is a must, this is worth it. Otherwise, you do not necessarily need to use Disney Genie+ for the shows.

These Disney’s Hollywood Studios touring strategies are a great way to help you start thinking about your plan for the day. Each is designed to help you maximize your park time without running all over the place but can be easily modified to fit your interests and needs.
