8 Reasons to Plan a Walt Disney World Resort Vacation in 2022

| | |

The new year is right around the corner and with it, comes a lot of news about Disney destinations! The phased reopening continues throughout the Disney destinations but now is a great time to start thinking about your next visit! Here are 8 reasons to plan a Disney vacation in 2022!

The Magic Is Calling

The 50th-anniversary celebration for the Walt Disney World Resort started on October 1, 2021. This celebration kicked off with two new fireworks shows, the opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and new Earidescent outfits for our Disney friends. It will last 18 months and as the new song goes, the magic is calling! More fun is returning to the Walt Disney World Resort and it’s truly a great time to plan your visit to the parks.

Beloved Entertainment is Returning

Magic Kingdom

The Festival of Fantasy parade was a staple for any day at the Magic Kingdom before the pandemic. In early 2022, it is returning! If you have never seen this parade or you are hoping to take a child to Walt Disney World, this is an absolute must! There is nothing like seeing a child’s (or child at heart’s) face light up when the music starts to play and the first float comes into sight. Then, watch your favorite fairytales and stories come to life as your favorite characters dance and wave as they go by!

In July 2021, fireworks returned to the skies of the Walt Disney World Resort. Then, two new nighttime shows – Harmonious and Disney Enchantment –  arrived in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort at the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT! It is wonderful to see fireworks again in the parks and the nighttime shows are the perfect way to end your day in the parks.

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater is being refurbished, and Fantasmic! will also be returning in 2022! Disney has confirmed that there will be new features and sequences in the show so we are eager to hear more details, including the exact return date!

New Entertainment is Coming

Do you love seeing the different characters at the parks? Do you enjoy the parades and the shows in front of Cinderella Castle?

For many, the entertainment at the Disney parks is as much of a draw as the attractions. This year, at the D23 Expo, there were many big announcements made about the entertainment at the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks. There will be a few new additions coming in 2022 and this is sure to bring smiles to park guests!

If you like the character cavalcades, you won’t want to miss the all-new “Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade”. This brand-new cavalcade will feature several beloved characters that are ready for an adventure including those from “Zootopia”, “The Jungle Book”, “Coco” and more!

New Technology

Coming in 2022, the MagicBand+ will bring even more opportunities for the magic to your Walt Disney World Resort vacation! This includes interacting with the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection, a new way to enjoy the nighttime shows, and more. If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you will have the opportunity to pre-order this exciting new option so stay tuned for more details.

New Attractions

In October, the much-anticipated Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opened in the France pavilion at EPCOT. In 2022, there is another new attraction opening in EPCOT – Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This all-new rollercoaster is expected to open in Summer 2022. It will feature the first reverse launch of any Disney coaster! This is yet another reason to visit EPCOT with kids!

EPCOT Festivals

Throughout the year at EPCOT, there are four festivals that can’t be missed! This year, these festivals have run practically year-round. Each one is unique, offering different entertainment and features. However, they all include a variety of food booths, giving you the opportunity to taste bites around the World Showcase. The festivals are:

  • EPCOT International Festival of the Arts – this event takes place in January and February of each year. The festival celebrates the visual, performing, and culinary arts.
  • EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival – this festival typically starts in early March and features outdoor kitchens and a variety of topiaries themed for your favorite Disney characters.
  • EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival – In 2021, this festival began in July and went into November! Known for the live music and food options, there is always plenty to do and eat during this event!
  • EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays – The magic of the holiday season comes alive throughout the World Showcase. The beloved Candlelight Processional is a staple of this festival, featuring celebrity narrators and a musical retelling of the story of Christmas.

If you think these festivals are just for adults, you are definitely mistaken! Each one includes a fun scavenger hunt geared toward kids such as finding Remy from Ratatouille or Olaf’s traditions. There is also a fun way for kids to get excited about the different foods. For example, at the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, enjoy the Holiday Cookie Stroll. Plus, live entertainment at the American Gardens Theatre is included with admission. This includes shows such as the Candlelight Processional or the DISNEY ON BROADWAY concert series at the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts.

Recently, indoor character sightings have returned to the Walt Disney World Resort. Now, guests can meet several Disney favorites at various locations throughout the parks. These interactions are still socially distanced for safety. However, there is truly something magical about walking into a room and seeing Mickey Mouse waiting for you!

Many characters are also outdoors greeting guests! From meeting Belle in France to spotting Chewbacca in Batuu, there are plenty of opportunities for fun interactions!

The magic and memories are waiting and time goes way too fast. I am a firm believer that any age is a good age for a Disney trip. Whether you are coming with kids, on a girls’ trip, or just because you love the parks, there are many opportunities for memories to be made.  With many things evolving and changing at the parks, there is so much to look forward to in 2022! If you add in the flexibility of a Disney vacation package, it is truly the perfect time to get that trip on the books!
