Walt Disney World Resort Transportation Guide

| | |

When you are planning a Walt Disney World vacation, there are many things to consider. However, if you are staying at one of the resort hotels, transportation is one factor that you do not need to worry about. This is your Walt Disney World Resort transportation guide, designed to help you find your way around the resort.

One of the best things about staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel is that you do not need to worry about leaving Disney property throughout your stay unless you want to. Once you arrive, there are many methods of transportation available at no cost to help you navigate the resort. Previously, we have explored the options for transportation to and from the airport. Now, we are diving into the modes of transportation available onsite.

Monorail

Disney's Contemporary Resort Walt Disney World

The Monorail is one of the most recognized modes of transportation at the Walt Disney World Resort. It is often seen as an attraction itself and is definitely a staple.

Where Does It Go?

The monorail has two lines at the resort. The first goes to the Magic Kingdom. There are three resort hotels located along the monorail line as well. These resort hotels are:

  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

In addition, there is a stop at the Transportation and Ticket Center. This is considered the main hub for the monorail. This is where guests will go if they are hopping between the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. For guests staying off-site, this is also where parking is located to access the Magic Kingdom.

Where Do I Find It?

The Monorail has stops at three different resort hotels, the Magic Kingdom, and the Ticket and Transportation Center. In addition, there is a line that goes directly to EPCOT.

Disney Skyliner

Transportation - Disney Skyliner

Where Does It Go?

The Disney Skyliner goes to two of the theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort – EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There are also three additional stops, accessible from four different resort hotels.

Where Do I Find It?

For guests looking for access to the Disney Skyliner from their resort hotel, the options are:

  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort
  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort
  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

These resort hotels each have a stop along the Disney Skyliner, with the main hub being Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Guests can also utilize the Disney Skyliner to travel between the two theme parks. Please note, depending on your final destination, you will likely need to exit and switch lines. However, this is generally an easy process and cast members are always available to point you in the right direction.

In addition, during inclement weather, this mode of transportation may not always be available, but an alternative will always be provided.

Disney Busses

Where Does It Go?

The Disney Busses offer guests access to many different locations throughout the resort. The busses go to all of the theme parks, depending on the resort. They also go to Disney Springs and the water parks. The busses may also serve as a backup method of transportation in the event of inclement weather when the boats or Disney Skyliner are unavailable.

Where Do I Find It?

The busses are located near the front entrance of each Disney Resort. Please note, not all resorts offer bus transportation to each park. For example, some of the deluxe resorts are within walking distance of the theme parks or offer other methods of transportation such as boats or the monorail.

Disney Boats

Where Does It Go?

There are several different methods of water transportation at the Walt Disney World Resort. These boats go to three theme parks, Disney Springs and to several resort hotels.

Where Do I Find It?

Depending on which resort you are staying at during your visit, boat transportation may be available right at your resort hotel. In addition, guests may choose to take the boats from three of the four theme parks, depending on where they want to go.

Ferry Boats

The ferry boats take guests between the Magic Kingdom and the Ticket and Transportation Center. These boats hold a lot of guests and are a good option if you have parked at the Ticket and Transportation Center.

Friendship Boats

The Friendship Boats take guests between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. These boats make stops at each of the EPCOT area resorts including:

  • Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts
  • Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
  • Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotels

Water Taxi

The water taxi takes guests to the Magic Kingdom from several of the resort hotels along Bay Lake. These resort hotels include:

  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

There are also water taxis available to Disney Springs from the resorts in that area. Those resorts include:

  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
  • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

Walking Paths

If you are looking for an alternate way to get to some of the theme parks or Disney Springs, there are also walking paths available. Guests can easily walk to EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios from the EPCOT area resorts. In addition, there is a walking path that goes to Disney’s Contemporary Resort and to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

You may also choose to walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

If you are headed to Disney Springs, there is a walking path from Disney’s Saratoga Resort and Spa.

Once you arrive for your Walt Disney World vacation, it’s easy to use all of the transportation options to explore the resort. If you are looking to stay in the “Disney Bubble”, you can easily navigate anywhere in the resort!
