Resort Overview

Opening in November 1971, this resort recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The resort has grown and evolved over the years, offering both campsites and cabins now. It is quite large, comprised of 750 acres, but is a short distance away from the Magic Kingdom. There are great views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake as well. With so many activities, this is a great resort to stay at if you’d like to have “non-park days” or if you enjoy spending time outdoors.

Location: This resort is very close to the Magic Kingdom. It is a short water taxi ride away, with views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the Electrical Water Pageant at night.

Amenities: There is SO much to do and see at this resort! From pony rides to archery, there is something for all ages. It’s very easy, and encouraged, to have a resort day during your vacation!

Theme: This resort allows you to “rough it”  but with style! You have the feel of camping with a peaceful atmosphere but the cabins have all of the luxuries of home or any Disney resort!

Trail’s End Restaurant

Head to this restaurant inspired by a rustic cabin and enjoy a family-style meal for breakfast or dinner. Menu options include Southern-style cuisine including smoked chicken, pulled pork, and more.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

This beloved dinner show returns to the Walt Disney World Resort on June 23, 2022. Come see the Pioneer Hall Players for a 2-hour show that includes Wild West dancing, singing, and fun antics! While you watch the show, enjoy an all-you-care-to-enjoy menu featuring fried chicken, BBQ pork ribs, salad, and more.

Pools

The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool is the feature pool at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. It includes a 67-foot-long corkscrew waterslide. There is a whirlpool spa for the adults and a fort-themed water play area, perfect for little ones.

The Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool is a leisure pool for all ages and includes a whirlpool spa.

Complimentary towels are provided at all pools.

Movies Under the Stars

Watch your favorite Disney films at the complimentary outdoor screenings, located at the outdoor theater of Meadow Recreation Area. Check with the front desk for a full schedule.

Basketball Courts

There are several basketball courts found throughout Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Basketballs are in a designated box at each court. If the box is empty, housekeeping should be notified from a Comfort Station phone and a basketball will be delivered to the court.

Volleyball

A game of beach volleyball awaits on the court in the Meadow Recreation Area. Complimentary volleyballs are available from the Bike Barn to all guests with a valid resort ID.

Jogging

Take a jog around the resort through the pines, cypress trees, and meadows. Be sure to grab a map from the Concierge.

Bike Rentals

Enjoy a ride through the pine forests and meadows with a bike from the Bike Barn. Be on the lookout for wildlife as you explore!

Kayak Rentals

Head to the Bike Barn to rent a kayak and set off on an adventure along the streams and ponds. Rentals are available daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Complimentary lifejackets must be worn and guests must be 18 years of age or older to rent a kayak. Rentals are $13 per hour, plus tax, and are first-come, first-served.

Canoe Rentals

Paddle along the waterways of central Florida with a canoe rental from the Bike Barn. Rentals are available daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and are first-come, first-served. The cost of the rental is $13 per hour, plus tax. Complimentary life jackets must be worn and guests must be 18 years of age or older to rent a canoe.

Motorized Boat Rentals

Head to the Fort Wilderness Marina to rent a boat and cruise around Bay Lake. Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis and guests must be 18 years of age or older and present a valid driver’s license, state-issued ID, or Military ID to rent a boat. Complimentary life jackets are required for all guests under 12 years of age.

Pony Rides

Pony rides are offered daily at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Children must be at least 2 years of age, under 80 pounds, and no taller than 48 inches. A parent or guardian must lead the pony at all times. No reservations are necessary. The cost is $8 per person, plus tax.

Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides

Enjoy the pine trails of the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground as you trot along in a 25-minute vintage carriage ride.

Tri-Circle-D Ranch

Head over to the stables to see all of the animals living at the ranch. They include Cinderella’s Ponies and the horses of Main Street, U.S.A. Don’t miss the Dragon Calliope, the instrument that Walt Disney purchased for the Mickey Mouse Club Circus Parade at Disneyland Park in the 1950s.

Fort Wilderness Archery Experience

This fun activity teaches guests 7 years of age and older how to hold and use a compound bow. Located at the Bike Barn, this 75-minute session is limited to 10 guests and there is an Archery Guide working with guests to help hone those skills. The cost of the session is $45 per person, plus tax.

Wilderness Back Trail Adventure

Head out on a Segway to enjoy Florida’s natural beauty and navigate a variety of surfaces from paved paths to woodland trails. This 2-hour adventure includes stops at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch and Bay Lake.  The cost is $90 per person and guests must be at least 16 years of age to participate.

Fishing

Enjoy a guided Bass Fishing Excursion, perfect for all ages and anglers. These 2-hour or 4-hour trips include:

  • An experienced guide
  • Rod and reel
  • Tackle
  • Artificial and/or live bait
  • Non-alcoholic beverages only

Fishing at the Walt Disney World Resort is catch-and-release only. Life jackets will be provided and are required for children ages 12 and under. Reservations are highly recommended and can be done by calling (407)939-FISH. Your travel advisor can also assist with this reservation.

Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Arcade & Davy Crockett’s Wilderness Arcade

With a variety of games for all ages, there is something for everyone at this arcade. You can race cars, play your favorite sports, have a dance-off, and more. You can go head-to-head with a friend or family member or just try for your own high score.

Game cards must be purchased to play. Game points are added using cash or a credit card and the game cards are rechargeable. In addition, these game cards can be used at other Walt Disney World Resort arcades.

Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Arcade is located near the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool. Davy Crockett’s Wilderness Arcade is located in Pioneer Hall.

Playgrounds

Kids can run, play and climb at the playgrounds located throughout the resort including at Clementine’s Beach and the Meadow Recreation Area.

Fort Wilderness Campfire Activities

As the sun goes down, it’s the perfect time to gather around the campfire! There is plenty of family fun waiting, complete with marshmallows for roasting.

Get around Walt Disney World Resort with ease using these convenient, complimentary transportation options.

How to get to each park:

While staying at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, you may be wondering how you can get to each park using the free transportation systems offered at Walt Disney World. Since this resort is quite large, there are internal buses that take guests to the main bus stop at the resort, the Outpost Depot. From there, buses take guests to the theme parks and Disney Springs. We have it broken down for you:

  • Magic Kingdom: There are free resort buses that offer transportation to the Magic Kingdom. These buses run approximately every 20 minutes from the resort until an hour after the park closes. Water taxis are also available.
  • EPCOT: There are free resort buses that offer transportation to EPCOT. These buses run approximately every 20 minutes from the resort until an hour after the park closes.
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: There are free resort buses that offer transportation to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These buses run approximately every 20 minutes from the resort until an hour after the park closes.
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom: There are free resort buses that offer transportation to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. These buses run approximately every 20 minutes from the resort until an hour after the park closes.
  • Disney Springs and Water Parks: There are free resort buses that offer transportation to Disney Springs and the water parks nearly every 20 minutes from the resort. Buses typically run for an hour after Disney Springs or the water park close.

In addition to the bus transportation, golf cart rentals are available to help navigate the resort. Reservations are highly recommended.

Parking

Each campsite provides parking space for one motorized vehicle.

*While staying in the cabins, guests who drive either their own vehicle or a rental car to Walt Disney World should know that a standard overnight self-parking fee of $20 per night will be applied to the guest hotel folio upon check-out. Complimentary standard self-parking is available while you enjoy select dining, shopping, entertainment, and recreation experiences at this resort.
