Just this last week, Disney announced the “Return to Halloween Time” at the Disneyland Resort for this upcoming Fall, including Halloween Party dates/details, attraction overlays, entertainment, & much more. Starting on September 1st & running through October 31st, the Disneyland Resort – including both parks & Downtown Disney – will be aglow with spooky & festive decorations, food, & theming!
The big headliner for the “Return to Halloween Time” announcement is the return of Oogie Boogie Bash – the fan-favorite Halloween Party held annually at Disney California Adventure Park. Previously-announced dates & details for the 2023 version of the party can be found here. Prices for the party range from $134 (weeknights in September) up to $189 (Halloween night), as released this week by Disney. Oogie Boogie Bash is truly a once-in-a-lifetime theme park party, so make sure you make your way out to Disneyland Resort to experience it yourself! Theme Park Professor will be there as well to give you a full review of the event.
DISNEYLAND
As far as Disneyland Park itself goes, Disney also confirmed that the beloved Haunted Mansion Holiday will be returning as an overlay to the Haunted Mansion, an annual tradition at Disneyland since 2001. As always, a completely unique (and real!) gingerbread house will be created by the culinary team at the Disneyland Resort to adorn the center of the ballroom. It promises to be a “deliciously diabolical gingerbread house,” as Disney says.
The night-time spectacular “Halloween Screams” will also be making its triumphant return to the resort, playing nightly at Disneyland Park from September 1st until October 31st. “Halloween Screams” will “summon supernatural projections, special effects & music” at Disneyland Resort, & will also feature fireworks conjuring in the skies above on “select nights.” For the first time ever, guests who have purchased MagicBand+’s will also be able to experience a new aspect to the show, with “ominous illuminations and shivering vibrations” on their wrist.
Of course, the Main Street Pumpkin Festival – highlighted by the famous giant Mickey in Town Square – will take place all across Main Street, U.S.A., as well as other spooky decorations scattered around the park. In Frontierland, the impressive & heartfelt tribute to Dia De Los Muertos will take it’s place just before the queue to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, featuring larger-than-life vignettes, floral displays, & more. Plus, the Fab Five will be meeting guests in their spooky Halloween best throughout the season!
DISNEY CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE
Hopping across the esplanade to Disney California Adventure Park, Disney also confirmed that three fan-favorite transformations would be returning in 2023 – Radiator Screams taking over Radiator Springs, Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark replacing Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, and Plaza de la Familia filling in at it’s traditional spot in Paradise Gardens Park.
Radiator Screams will see the return of extensive theming up & down Route 66, plus completely new outfits for the characters. Plus, attraction overlays Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween will return, complete with new theming & soundtracks for both family rides. For those looking for a bit more thrill, the “scream-worthy adventure” of Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark will take place starting at 5pm each day at the park.
As for the Plaza de la Familia, vibrant flowers, impressive entertainment, character meet & greets, & unique family activities will commence across Paradise Gardens Park, paying tribute to the Mexican traditions of Dia De Los Muertos. Don’t forget to stop by Paradise Garden Grill to fill up on some unique Mexican cuisine! “A Musical Celebration of Coco” will once again be the highlight of the event, bringing impressive live entertainment based on the Disney & Pixar hit “Coco” to the area multiple times a day. The show includes “a talented company of Folklorico dancers, plus Mariachi singers and musicians” as they retell the lovable story of Miguel & his journey to the Land of the Dead. Don’t forget to check out the live Mariachi commencing throughout the day at the Paradise Gardens Stage! Plaza de la Familia will run through November 2nd as part of the Dia De Los Muertos celebration.
DOWNTOWN DISNEY
If you aren’t able to make it into the parks this Halloween, don’t fret – Downtown Disney will also be taking place in the fun, including Disney character-themed pumpkins hidden throughout the district as part of Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit. Plus, Halloween decorations, unique live entertainment, specialty snacks, & spooky soundtracks will fill the walkways, shops, & dining of Downtown Disney, as well! Disney has promised more details on the treats & entertainment as the Halloween season gets closer, so stay tuned to Theme Park Professor for all the details!
No matter if you prefer the scary or the friendly side of the Fall season, the Disneyland Resort is the place to be to get your full Halloween fix in 2023!
