Disney has announced they plan to go to an all online-based shopping experience for guests in the future. With the future of Disney merchandise sales going online many Disney Stores will begin to close to support this “streamlined online shopping experience.” Yesterday, the first list of stores to close was announced.
There will be 60 closures total to make up about one-third of its total North American footprint. There are about 300 Disney Stores around the world.
“While consumer behavior has shifted toward online shopping, the global pandemic has changed what consumers expect from a retailer,” said Stephanie Young, president of consumer products, games and publishing for Disney.
