Future guests visiting Walt Disney World’s EPCOT will no longer get to enjoy the beloved dolphins inside The Seas with Nemo & Friends, as Disney has announced that all live dolphins will be removed & relocated from the Park “beginning in October” of this year.
The Seas with Nemo & Friends – formerly known as The Living Seas upon it’s opening in 1986 – is a beloved Pavilion inside EPCOT, featuring a traditional dark ride attraction followed by a massive, multi-story aquarium open for guest exploration. The aquarium is currently home to three male dolphins, who will all be moved to the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park in Florida next month, according to Disney. The Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park is currently led by a former The Seas with Nemo & Friends mammal expert, who oversaw the well-being of the three dolphins.
Alongside the announcement of the dolphin removal, Disney will also be swapping out two mammals, as well, including the fan-favorite manatee named Lou. Lou will relocate to a mammal rehabilitation center this week, while another manatee will move in to The Seas Pavilion to join Lil Joe.
Currently, Disney offers a paid guided tour called DiveQuest, allowing guests to dive & swim with the three male dolphins. Guests with active reservations through October 19th, 2024 will still be able to partake in the experience, with all reservations after this date being subject to a refund while DiveQuest undergoes further renovation throughout 2024.
