Are you hoping that on your next trip to Disneyland, spooky, scary skeletons send shivers down your spine? Are you wishing for a photo with some grim, grinning ghosts? The Happiest Haunts Tour returned this holiday season to bring guests behind the veil of the happiest place on earth, sharing stories, snacks, and other spooktacular spectacles during this history-filled walking tour of the park.
The tour returned just in time for Disney’s 100th anniversary celebration in the parks! We booked the tour as soon as it opened on the Disneyland website. When the day finally arrived for our tour, we put on our Haunted Mansion attire and met the VIP Tour groups in front of the Disneyland park to check-in.
After meeting our not-quite Ghost Host, Hector, our tour began with a trip backstage for a rendezvous with our first happy haunts of the day. While the Haunted Mansion plays host to Jack Skellington and the rest of the citizens of Halloweentown, the hitchhiking ghosts are more than happy to haunt your photo albums! Individual photo opportunities with our spectral guests set the mood for the afternoon, and with our photo session completed, we ventured into the park in search of more scares and surprises.
Our tour ranged across all of Disneyland and covered tales from throughout history: the carving of the first Jack o’ Lantern, how the decorations on Main Street USA came to be, and much more. We heard tell of the first Halloween at the park as well as the haunting tale of the spirits who call Big Thunder Mountain Railroad home. A stop beneath the Halloween Tree in Frontierland came with tricks and treats: a history of trick or treating, the story of Ray Bradbury and how the Halloween Tree came to the Magic Kingdom, and of course a little Mickey-shaped refreshment to keep up our energy and spirits.
We visited the Ofrenda to pay tribute to lost loved ones and learn the historical and cultural significance of Dia De Los Muertos, and we took a stroll through New Orleans Square as our guide spun tales of the harrowing history of the Haunted Mansion. As our trip to discover the hidden history of Halloween at Disneyland neared its end, we were met with a final surprise. After receiving a glowing badge commemorating our visit we were whisked away to the Very Important Poltergeist entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean for a ghoulishly exhilarating ride to finally answer the age old question: do dead men, in fact, tell no tales?
Perfect for guests young and young at heart, this guided journey through the park not only includes your tour, snacks, and souvenirs, but also reserved seating for the evening Castle show the night of your activity. So light your lanterns and steel your nerves: the spooks and spirits of Disneyland await you on the Happiest Haunts Tour. While there may always be room for one more at the Mansion, this tour’s space is limited to far less than 999 participants, so reach out to your Winds in the East travel advisor now to ensure that your next visit isn’t interrupted by mischievous ghosts!
