Walt Disney World is very busy these days expanding its parks and hotels. New lands, rides, and experiences are being added to the theme parks, and massive hotel refurbishments are taking place across the resort. One of the biggest changes to Walt Disney World hotels was the addition of the Gran Destino Tower to Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in 2019.
The Gran Destino Tower is a massive new extension to Disney’s popular Moderate resort, Coronado Springs. Standing 16 stories high, the elegant new tower features 545 new guest rooms that include 50 suites. The tower also includes the Toldeo Steak and Tapas. The theming at this new addition is based on the short film Destino which began as a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali in 1945. The surrealist animated film was finished by Roy E. Disney and released in 2003.
Touches of Dali, as well as Disney, can be found throughout the building. Organic shapes combine bright colors and dreamlike imagery to create a unique and comforting environment. You’ll even find a few hidden Mickeys throughout the decor.
The lobby is split between two floors. The top floor features a check-in desk as well as bell services. There are also many lounging areas and a sprawling work area with ample plugs and USB ports for guests to use during their stay. This check-in desk will become the central check-in for all of Coronado Springs Resort. At that time, the current check-in at El Centro will only be used for large group check-ins and other special events.
On the lower level, guests can relax in the Barcelona Lounge. This lounge is unique in that it serves a selection of grab-and-go food items in the mornings and cocktails in the evening. The real star here is the beautiful ceiling with a gold chandelier and towering arched windows providing views of the lake.
The rooms at Gran Destino Tower are decorated with a mix of gold, orange and brown accents. There’s a lot of space in these rooms, and are a bit larger than the other rooms at Coronado Springs. Standard rooms feature 2 queen beds, desk, coffee maker, walk-in shower and new interactive TVs.
Three Bridges Bar and Grill at Villa del Lago is an open lounge placed on the water serving cocktails and small bites with a truly amazing view of the tower.
The debut of the new tower brings two new dining locations along with it. Toldeo – Tapas, Steak and Seafood is themed after the surrealist artists of Spain from the 20s and 30s and features a large menu of small plate items.
This new addition quickly became one of our favorite hotel experiences on Walt Disney World property, and definitely elevates Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. We highly recommend a stay at the Gran Destino Tower for your next trip!
